What is infertility?

The inability to get pregnant after one year trying to conceive with unprotected intercourse.What are the most common causes of infertility? • For women-age, ovulation disorders, blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, abnormalities in the uterus such as the presence of fibroids and endometriosis. • For men-low sperm motility, failure to produce enough sperm, blocked reproductive pathways, and abnormal semen.

When should I visit the clinic during my menstrual cycle?

• For first time patients, we suggest you visit the clinic on Day 10 of your menstruation cycle. • Patients who plan to start IVF/ICSI program are advised to come on Day 2 of the menstruation cycle.

What is intrauterine insemination (IUI)?

• IUI is the simplest form of treatment available for sub-fertile couples and it involves the injection of a purified sperm sample into the uterine (womb) cavity of the women.

What is in-vitro fertilization (IVF)?

• ICSI is the procedure involving the injection of a single sperm into each mature egg to allow fertilization to occur.

What is preimplantation genetic screening (PGS)?

PGS is used to denote procedures that do not look for a specific abnormality but to identify aneuploidy of 23 chromosomes in embryos.

Who should undergo IUI, IVF, ICSI or PGS?

IUI women with normal fallopian tubes and with husbands with normal to slightly low sperm count. IVF women with irreparably damaged or blocked fallopian tubes or who have endometriosis, ovulatory dysfunction, unexplained infertility and immunological problem and with husbands with normal to good sperm count. ICSI: Everyone qualifies especially husband with poor quality sperms,Frozen sperm,sperm retrieved testicular tissues or who have experienced low fertilization rate in previous cycle. PGS women with advanced maternal age, multiple miscarriages and a number of failed embryo transfers.

Does my husband need to come to all my appointments?

• Not all. However, your husband is required to come for the following appointments: a) Semen Analysis before IVF or ICSI program. b) Initial counseling session. c) Day of egg retrieval and embryo transfer.

Can my husband collect his sperm at home?

But only after the proper advice from our Centre

What are the common side effects of fertility medications?

• It is common to feel bloated, emotional or have hot flashes. • There may be localized skin reactions at the injection site. • A small percentage of patients may experience hyperstimulation syndrome.

What is the average number of embryos transferred?

Generally, two or three embryos will be transferred after discussion with the doctor.

What is done with my remaining embryos?

We will suggest patients to freeze and store the remaining embryos in our laboratory for their own future use.

When is the suitable timing to start a new IVF cycle after a failed IVF cycle?

• You may try after a 2 to 3 months break • If you have frozen embryos, our doctor will monitor you and perform the Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) under a controlled condition

Is there any age limitation to undergo an IVF program?

• There is no age limitation however health status will determine If someone qualifies for IVF treatment. • Pregnancy chances decrease with advancing age.

What is the duration of an IVF cycle?

• One and a half month is required to complete an IVF cycle. • This includes hormone control, a stimulation injection and the actual IVF laboratory procedure.
